The good thing about big drawings is, it requires a lot of work. The bad thing is, it requires a lot of work. I’ve neglected this sleeve for weeks, because heavy fills is the only thing that tests my patience. It’s so “scratchy”, that I’m finding myself having to go back and smooth out all the dark lines - speaks of one of his works
Drawing : Zachari Logan
Contemporary Canadian Artist Zachari Logan, works mainly in large-scale drawing and installation practices, exploring introspective ideas about masculine representation and self awareness. As catalyst, Logan combines images of his own body along with elements of flora and fauna, in the creation of personal narratives. Engaging both epic-scale and stylistically-historic techniques, Logan’s meticulous drawings evolve a visual language which speaks to the metaphoric as well as the metaphysical.

Artist Heather Hansen Emptied Gestures is as much a performance piece as it is a drawing. Appearing to use charcoal or pastel, Hansen literally steps on to the paper and begins to draw. She allows the natural movements of her body the movements of joints, the extension of her back, stretching and contracting to define her lines. The large-scale drawing becomes a kind of record of her moving body.

“Through this body of map-based work I study both the physical attributes of the terrain and the features of my chosen subjects. I search for opportunities to synchronise the two, finding similarities between the patterns, before drafting out the portrait and building the tone.”
